So, you believe your diet is really good, and that you meet all your nutritional needs eating the way you do?

This is an excerpt from "A  Basic Protocol" by John W Jones, MD

WRONG IDEAS
A popular misconception held by both the lay public and the medical profession is that the American diet supplies sufficient levels of all the nutrients needed by the body.   In reality, the western diet is characterized by imbalances and excesses.   In addition, there are unknown consequences from the GMO food supply.   Telling a person “all you need to do is eat right” does not take into consideration the American lifestyle, problems associated with our food supply, or human nature.

Two nationwide food consumption studies conducted by the USDA found that approximately 60% of the individuals surveyed were consuming only 70% of the daily minimum requirements of six essential nutrients.   Those surveyed were people who made an effort to eat (and thought they were eating) a balanced diet.   The nutrients are: vitamin B6, folacin, zinc, copper, calcium and magnesium.   With these facts in mind, it is not likely that anyone is consuming an optimal supply of nutrients ... without supplementation.

More food for thought.

Are there consequences if you are not eating at least 1100 Calories of Nutrient Dense Food?   What are the MDRs (Minimum Daily Requirements)?   They are also known as the RDA and sometimes called the RDIs.  Do they apply if you are Pregnant or Lactating?  How about if you perform heavy manual labor - and do it under extremes of temperature?   Do pregnant women (and those who think they might become pregnant) really Have To Have at least 400 IU folic acid?   And how about the very young - the very old  - or the very ill?    How does poverty figure into food choices (what do folks really buy with those 'food stamps'?)

So, what does Dr Jones recommend?

Ultra Vites, our really good Multi Vitamin/Mineral supplement - plus Ultra Omega-Linic.  He formulated these two nutritional supplements to cover the essential nutritional bases for the majority of people.  They have been combined in this cost-saving package.

What is Ultra Omega-Linic and why do you need it?  This extraordinary fish oil product provides ALL of the necessary PREformed essential fatty acids.  I don't know about you, but I do not eat fish 3 times a day - or not even 3 times a week - maybe not even 3 times a month.   And as the term 'essential fatty acids' implies, we 'gotta have 'em!

Not only that, but the fish oil in Ultra Omega-Linic comes from the pristine waters of protected Alaskan fisheries.  It is low in radiation and is assayed for contaminants.

Depending on what is going on in your life (health wise and emotionally) there are a number of other Nutritional considerations.   In light of recent studies on problems with Dementia and Alzheimer's, we offer you a new Basic Protocol Package which includes Ultra Monolaurin (great for cold and flu season, too).  Other studies associate a number of problems, such as autoimmune diseases, Diabetes, obesity, Crohn's disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis, with an improper balance (or lack) of  'good bacteria' in the GUT.   So we have a new Basic Package that includes Ultra 4x6 Probiotic.

A special note for Mothers.  During Pregnancy the vitamin, mineral and essential fatty acid needs of the mother increase significantly.  Well, why not?  You are eating for two.   In particular, when the baby's brain and retina are developing the mother needs a high level of Ultra Omega-Linic.  The baby will take these essential fatty acids as needed from Mother, and a high intake will protect her from postpartum depression.

The other area of concern is Healthy Aging.  We need to preserve our Hearts (cardiovascular system), our Brains and our Eyes - keep them at their optimal performance as long as we possibly can.

In Summary:
We have wandered very far from our hunter-gatherer-farmer ancestors’ eating habits.  This has caused nutritional deficiencies and excesses from our skewed diets.  One of the most problematic excesses is high consumption of high fructose corn syrup.  We rely on fast food places, food processing and harmful cooking preferences which change the nutritive value of the foods we eat.  Many of the fats in our diets are hydrogenated so they are no longer unsaturated - and trans forms are produced that have been shown to be detrimental to your health and well-being.

Isn't it comforting to know that you can take a few basic nutritional supplements and BE SURE your needs are met!

Salon & Spa Skin Care: tips and tricks from Nature's lab

Skin Care Recommendations:
You, too, can have beautiful Skin!
Reviewed June 2016
  • Don’t wash your face too often.   Each time you cleanse, oil and moisture are also washed away.
  • Using natural cleansers help your skin maintain it’s delicate moisture balance.
  • Avoid extremely hot water which is damaging to delicate tissues.  Comfortably warm water is sufficient to soften your skin for more thorough cleansing.
  • Use caution when showering.  Long hot showers feel wonderful, but keep in mind - your scalp, face, and entire body are being exposed to chlorine and other harsh chemicals.  The hotter the water, the greater potential damage.  And consider using a non-soap, pH balanced Body Wash.
  • Toners are an important step for optimal skin care.  Their purifying, anti-bacterial ingredients destroy harmful bacteria and remove residue of chlorine and other harsh, drying chemicals found in tap water.    The phyto-rich nutrients in our toners, nourish and help balance the acid mantle, vital to healthy skin.   Applying toners to the T-Zone with a cotton ball helps to deeply clean and refine pores.
  • Skin care products are best absorbed when applied to freshly cleansed, moist skin.  So, apply your skin products immediately after washing while the skin is still damp.  If too wet, just lightly pat a bit dryer with a towel.
  • Be gentle to your skin.  Lightly apply skin products without stretching the skin.  Tap on and around delicate eye area
Why Should You Moisturize?

Dry, dehydrated skin is more prone to infections and inflammations, slower to heal, and more susceptible to sun, wind, and environmental toxins - accelerating the aging  process.   Consider the Renewal formulations which includes Renewal Intensive Moisture Serum.

Natural, phyto-active moisturizers are vital to maintain nourishment and protection for the skin.  Be patient while your skin improves.  You will see and feel improvements in your skin after just one or two applications.  Deeper layer changes, due to natural cellular turnover, will take 4 to 6 weeks.
Most skin care professionals agree that 3 months is the average time for more dramatic changes.   You should work to improve your skin’s ability to absorb and utilize valuable nutrients and moisturizing agents.

Prep your Skin

Exfoliation is important for sufficient hydration - essential for healthy skin.  Even though the skin exfoliates naturally, for most of us this process has been impaired or otherwise diminished, robbing you of smooth, relaxed, glowing skin.

Lacking proper hydration, people of all ages endure a variety of skin imbalances.   To help renew your skin’s natural radiance, exfoliation by regularly polishing or buffing your skin sloughs away the dry, dead cells, helps restore the skin’s ability to absorb and  utilize valuable nutrients and moisturizing agents - encouraging replenished hydration, refined texture, and restored elasticity.

Apply the MASQUES - See the GLOW!

Boost the skin cell’s renewal process by applying our moisture masques.  The truly regenerating effects occur by dissolving dead skin cells and drawing out impurities - refining overall texture; by accelerating cellular turnover - improving hydration and plumping up skin tissue; and by allowing the skin to maximize absorption of active phyto-nutrients from topical skin preparations.

Phyto-Aromatic Concentrates - are truly concentrated formulas

Intended for partial body application, these phyto-active formulas are penetrating emollients, vitamins, and a high percentage of pure essential oils.   Every nutritious Concentrate base includes hazelnut, apricot kernel, and avocado oils, coconut nucifera oil and gardenia tahitensis flowers, panthenol, phospholipids, linden flower extract,  vitamins A, D, and E, and Irish moss.

Phyto-Aromatic Concentrate general application:
Apply to selected body areas, such as back, legs, feet, or hips.   For best results, cover treated area for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight.
Caution: Do not apply Phyto-Aromatic Concentrates on inflamed or sensitive skin.   Avoid contact with eyes and other mucous membranes.
